Comber
Silver Band
|
Formed in 1902 in the small town of Comber, in gentle County Down countryside at the northwest corner of Strangford Lough, the band has undergone progressive change. After beginning as a flute band, in 1949 the band had the foresight to turn to brass and has since enjoyed impressive success in local concerts and contests.
In
the Spring of 1997 we entered a new era after appointing Ewan Easton
as Director of Music.
Ewan, a TUBA soloist of international acclaim, has played with the world's
leading conductors, orchestras and brass bands.
He was Principal Tuba in the
Ulster Orchestra
but left us in 2001 when he moved to his new appointment as Principal Tuba in
the
Hallé Orchestra based
in Manchester.
At the end of 2002 Grenville Moore, Principal Horn in the Ulster
Orchestra, left the post of Director of Music with Comber Silver Band.
On 2nd April 2003 Geoffrey Clarke was appointed Director of Music for Comber Silver Band.
The band is proud of its role in the community and has played extensively in the local area and further afield. We often participate in the North of Ireland Bands Association and Brass Band League annual contests.
