Comber Band is anxious to promote music in the community and to this end we sponsored a recital in Comber by 'Tuba Tapestry' - Ewan Easton and Steve Barnett from the Ulster Orchestra. We have also been associated with the organisation and presentation of a Trombone Master Class in Belfast given by Andrew Berryman, Principal Trombone with the Hallé Orchestra, Professor of Trombone at the Royal Northern College of Music and at University College, Salford. The master class was sponsored by Trevor J. James & Co., England on behalf of Getzen Co. Inc. (Edwards Trombones) USA. Over sixty people attended the Tuba tapestry recital and 73 attended Andrew Berryman's master class. We were delighted with the attendance at these events.
In late 1998 the Band and Ensemble were privileged to organise a concert in Comber featuring Ulster Brass, and on 1st December 1998 we promoted a recital in Belfast by the stunning ensemble, London Brass.
The Band received the first copy of a new commission, 'The Comber Suite' for brass band in three movements by the renowned English composer, Darrol Barry. We played this music for the first time in public in our concert to celebrate 50 years as a brass band on 29 May 1999. We were joined by Tuba Tapestry and by our junior band Laureldale Brass Ensemble. Between Comber Silver Band and Laureldale Brass Ensemble we had over 70 brass and percussion players on the floor.
It is a great encouragement to see several of the first generation of Laureldale Ensemble graduate to Comber Band in 2002 and new children joining the Ensemble.
