Leila Webster,
MBE, USWA (Hon)
Leila
Webster is undeniably a star and a lady! She has been singing in public
since she was ten years of age and for many years 'topped the bill' as one of
Northern Ireland's best-loved singers, actresses and cabaret artistes. Leila
sang with the famous tenor James Johnston when the Sadler's Wells Ballet Company
appeared in Belfast; she has worked with international stars such as Bob Hope
and local comedian James Young; she gave a brilliant 'straight' performance in
Mother Courage and had the audience rolling in the aisles during numerous Sam
Cree comedies.
Leila was awarded the MBE in 1996. She still finds time and energy to support
local charities and visit long-stay patients and residents in nursing homes and
hospitals.
Due, in part, to her husband Tom's lifelong devotion to brass bands Leila has
been a great supporter of the North of Ireland Bands Association and the Brass
Band League.
We are honoured and extremely grateful to Leila and Tom for their support and
encouragement for our young musicians in Laureldale Brass Ensemble.
